Spanish

Spanish is offered two-days a week for our students in grades 1-8. Kindergarten we offer once a week in a small group setting. Our Spanish instruction emphasizes strongly the spoken or conversational dynamics of the Spanish language. Students master the ability to engage in simple conversation in the primary and intermediate grades and advances to more complex levels of conversation in the middle school.

Likewise, students will come to understand that all languages have a structure, that there is a general set of rules that are common to all languages and that understanding these rules can help us understand not only Spanish but other languages.

Art

Art is offered two-days a week for our students in grades K-8. We believe that each person has a creative, artistic voice. The goal of the art class is to encourage each student to explore the limitless possibilities of this voice within the framework of the art elements of line, shape, color, value, texture, and space. An environment that encourages students to take risks, to stretch the imagination and to reach for excellence is crucial for this to happen. As students leave the art room they take with them a surplus of skills to help them cultivate their knowledge of art.

Music

A performance based music program will be offered to our students in grades K-8. Through our music program we seek to prepare students to understand the integral connection between worship and music and participate fully in the sung prayer of the Catholic Church. The goal of the instructor for this enrichment program is to produce two public performances of our K-5 grade students and two productions for our 6-8 grade students; these performances will likely occur during Advent and Easter.

Physical Education

We believe that physical education is an important component of the total education of a student. Physical education provides the students with the necessary skills and knowledge to lead healthy, active lives. The physical education program encourages development of physical fitness, motor skills, safety practices, and appropriate social skills.
