WHO WE ARE

We believe the goal of every person should be to become a saint. A perfect model of living the Christian life is found in the mother of God, herself, Mary. At Our Lady of Peace we seek to draw closer to Jesus Christ by following the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary: living a life of faith, hope, and love.

ABOUT US

Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and School is a neighborhood parish serving the Lake Nokomis and Diamond Lake communities of South Minneapolis. We focus on bringing you and your family closer to God through worship and the sacraments, community events, and Catholic education.

OUR HISTORY

1933

The Church of the Resurrection founded by Archbishop Austin Dowling.

1941

The Church of St. Kevin founded by Archbishop John Gregory Murray.

1991

Resurrection and St. Kevin's consolidated into Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church & School.

2016

Our Lady of Peace celebrated its 25th anniversary as a parish community.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

See what is very close to us

Our beliefs are central to our life as Catholics. We reaffirm them every week when we recite the Creed during Mass.

  • God the Father created the world and created humankind in His image.
  • Humanity was separated from God through the Original Sin of Adam and Eve.
  • Out of great love for us, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to the world as an infant. 
  • Jesus sacrificed Himself on the Cross and rose from the grave on Easter. In so doing, He redeemed us from our sins and reunited us with God.
  • Christ's presence in the World is continued through the work of the Holy Spirit in the Church and the Sacraments.
  • We look to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, and the saints for the example and assistance as we seek to live as the Body of Christ in the world.
  • The center of our worship is the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist along with the other Sacraments: Baptism, Reconciliation, Confirmation, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick, and Holy Orders.
