Unless you are native to this land, your presence in Minnesota today is steeped in its history and lore of immigration and adaptation yet similar in many ways to the experience of all.
OLP's Global Solidarity Committee is sponsoring an educational forum and discussion entitled "I Am You: A Catholic Perspective on Immigration Reform" Sunday, January 5, the Solemnity of the Epiphany and recently designated Immigration Sunday.
It also kicks off National Migration Week on the church calendar, January 5-11.
For nearly a half-century, the Catholic Church in the United States has celebrated this week as an opportunity to reflect on the circumstances confronting migrants, including immigrants, refugees, asylum-seekers, children, and victims and survivors of human trafficking.
The focus will be how we can answer the call of our Catholic Social Teaching to create "a world where immigrants, refugees, migrants, and people on the move are treated with dignity, respect, welcome and belonging" (vision statement, Migration and Refugee Services, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops).
